I was having a problem where gmail was always slow to load, but only in Chrome. It turned out to be their SPDY protocol: http://www.jamiestarke.com/2011/09/02/are-googles-services-running-slow-in-chrome-try-disabling-spdy/

I think the reason gmail works amazingly well in Firefox and Chrome, is that google designed it for that purpose.

They know that if people begin using gmail, and can't used IE, then they will switch to Chrome. It's a tactic. There is no reason a simple mail program would have issues in a simple browser program. This technology is 15 years old. This was done on purpose.

Or gmail is only slow after logging in. If you stay signed in, it works fine. So maybe google did this purposely so that you would stay signed in. Remember, if you stay logged in to your gmail, msn, or yahoo accounts, those companies track your every move and click on the internet. They keep the data for at least 2 years. This helps them sell targeted advertising.

Be very skeptical of google. If it were up to them, they would put a computer chip in your head so they could sell better advertising.

Don't be fooled. The Web 3.0 is being sold as this immersive, learning system that customizes things for you. Nonsense. It customizes things for advertisers who pay big money to know exactly what you are thinking 24/7. They could care less about your experience. They want to know your behavior so they can sell you things.

Google is not really a technology company, but a massive, massive, massive, all encompasing Marketing Research Firm. Period. End of discussion.

At least that is how they pay all their bills.
