Unlock Motorola V3 RAZR and go to the Moon!

Unlock Motorola V3

Lot’s of forum talks, lot’s of articles on Motorola internals, but none seemed to work 100%, and rather worked 97%. There was still this 3% that kept Motorola V3 RAZR owners from unlocking the phone… Here are tested, and proved to complete all 100%, steps that will let you unlock your Moty.

First, let’s get ready. All the tools that you can download below are MS Windows based (if you are using different OS, like Mac or, like me – Ubuntu, you can install MS Windows in a virtual box).

Ok, so assuming you are using MS Windows, these are the tools you will need to use:

  • p2k drivers 2.9” – This is a set of drivers that will enable your PC/Laptop and RAZR V3 to communicate.
  • scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2” – this is the tool written by scotty2 which downgrades your phone’s bootloader from (8.26, 8.23, 7.E0) to 7.D0, which is needed for the next tool to unlock it.
  • P2K_Easy_Tool_v37” – this is an actual “unlocker” tool.
  • MiniUSB to USB cable mini usb cable in order to connect your RAZR V3 to PC/Laptop.

Now the first thing first…

Step 1. Download the tools above, unpack them (unrar, unzip – here is a good tool for that tugzip)

Step 2. Plug in your phone to the computer using (#4) miniUSB to USB cable and install the drivers. Windows will ask you to install the drivers once the phone is plugged in, so just point it to the right directory where you unpacked them

Step 3. Turn off your phone

Step 4. Press and hold two buttons the star (*) and the pound (#) and while holding press the power button – this will bring you to something that Motorola people call “the flash screen”. On the top of the screen you will see something like this:

      Boot Loader
      08.26
      SW Version:
      R374_G_0E.41.C
      3R_0
      Ok to Program
      USB
      Transfer Mode

Step 5. Now you will need to run a scotty2’s tool to downgrade the Boot Loader (in this case) from 08.26 to 07.D0. For this (unpack the scotty’s zip and) run “downgrader.exe”. Follow the instructions and the output of the program should look similar to:

Bootloader is now 7.D0, have fun modding!

If you have problems on the step “Waiting for driver to disconnect” (it supposed to auto restart after this step), after the phone turned itself off, just turn it on again as it described in step 3 (Press and hold * and #, then while holding press the power button) At this point you should see that your Boot Loader has changed:

Boot Loader
07.DO
SW Version:
…

Step 6. Now it is time to run the “p2k_easy_tool_v37″ unlocking tool. Run “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37.exe”,

    6.1 Go to “Locks” tab
6.2 Choose your phone model (V3 RAZR) from the “Phone Model” drop down
    6.3 Check “Unlock SP”
6.4 Click on “Do Selected Jobs” button

And follow the instructions. Here is the snapshot of successful result: p2k easy tool - successful result

Step 7. That should complete your journey, and Moty V3 RAZR should be good to go! Now you can take it to the Moon – it’ll work just fine!

Note the last fact is not tested due to the limited knowledge about Moon’s Global System for Mobile communication

I tried to unlock my phone V3 using P2K_Easy_Tool_v37.

  9. Nevyn,
    Aidas,

Thank you for your instructions! It worked because of you.

Aidas, just follow Nevyn advice. I had the same problems as you.
You\’ll need to download MotoPhoenix which will properly install the
3 drivers in Step 1. Step 1 really meant to say that your computer
needs to install 3 sets of drivers in order for Step 2. to be able to see
    it as an interface.
    :)

  17. Please don’t use this software to unlock your Motorolla phone. I destroyed my two motorrola phones and they are now completely dead.

  18. mukarrama how is it that you destroyed your phone? What to do to restore your phone in case this happened?

  19. Finally managed to unlock my RazrV3. The drivers appeared to be all installed The computer wasn’t detecting all the interfaces. As per ‘Nevyn’ go to Motophoenix free download to test whether the software will work with your phone. Downloaded it and run it. It has an option called “Check Unlock Possibility”. Start this and it starts scanning interfaces. First though open up device manager and you should have three items appearing under “motorola devices”. Once you have these appearing, click on the abort button on MotoPhoenix and then carry on – when you’re asked to power back up, run MotoPhoenix again and wait for the devices to show up, hit abort, and then go back to the p2k easy tool and click okay.
Great Program & Documentation Thank you

  20. I installed and ran motophoenix. It triggered 3 items to appear. My window asked if i want to locate driver location. I pointed to the right unzipped folder but it said, window failed to install driver software?!! I see 3 items being listed there with “!” on it. Am i missing any step? I am on vista. Can’t seem to install drivers given..

    Please help!

Dump question. I don’t plan to use my phone on a different network but i just wanted to add ringtones/download pictures. That fuctions are currently locked by service provider (fido). Do i need to unlock the phone?

  21. will this work in razr v3xx?

  22. thank you so much!!!!! it worked great…the problem some people are having with the blank screen in the last step is not really a \”problem\”…when the key pad lights up but the screen is blank, the phone is still ON..you just go ahead and continue with the last step and it works!!!

  23. Amazing stuff.. Worked really well. This is the most simple procedure I have seen on the web. There are so many methods floating around but this was the easiest. Thanks a bunch.

  24. Hi…

I am seeing the bootloader version as 0C.C1 and I can see that many ppl have raised this question but no one seems to have replied to it. request the author to let us know whether this will work or provide us with some alternate soln..

    Thanks in advance

  29. FIX AND WORKING. Well I had the same problem some of you have had. Flashed down with the down grader and then tried to use the \’unlock\’ program and it wouldn\’t work. So, after I realized I had another unlocker program I tried that and it worked fine!
SO, use the down grader, after that use this program —> Mot_unlocker you can get it here http://www.hackthev3.com/how_to_unlock_motorola_v3.html and you\’ll be able to use your phone.

  30. By the way, scroll to the bottom of that page, that\’s where that download is.

  31. Finally I got it working. I had the “Could not connect” error while running the unlocker since windows automatically installed the drivers for me, not the one I want to use. So I just go to My Computer->Manage(right click)->Device Manager. My phone is actually listed under Modems. Do “Update Driver” with specific location->choose the driver to install->have disk, and choose P2K from the P2k Drivers package. Once the driver is updated, rerun the unlocker.

I also got the McAFee Generix.dx problem on winscard.dll in the unlocker package. I simply suspend my anti-virus program before extracting/running the files.

  32. Yep, Chris’s tip (090709) worked to get my Telstra lock removed… Don’t forget to run the phone in Flash mode when using Mot_locker… I did a couple of times ;)

  33. “I keep getting the following error -

  42. I have a V3 Razr ( not V3re ) with bootloader 0C.1C, anyone know if this downgrade work on my phone?

  43. Hi !
I have Motorola RAZR V3 with Bootloader R374_G0E.42.0ER.
After flashing Step 5 line 28
    \”Downgrading bootloader … Sucess.
    Handy dont react anymore.
    What is to do ?
    Thanks

  44. I have been trying this for the last few days with no luck. I believe my phone has been flashed and upgraded a few times. However, when following the above instructions exactly, my problem is the downgrader. The downgrader recognizes the phone and talks to it, but then says “No downgrade is necessary!” This, despite the bootloader being at 08.23 I assume that is the reason why the next step (unlocking) doesn’t work. I have SW version R374_G_0E.42.0CR.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  45. Oops. Never mind. Just read the downgrader text file. Going to try a straight flash of 0.7D now.

Sorry for not reading the help files before posting.

  46. great proggy plus documentation plus thanks to nrb856 for providing Motophoenix reference to solve driver problem.great learning/testing

  47. Everything works up until the last step. When I disconnect the phone, power up, connect usb, hit OK, and I get the following message:
