Disclaimer October the 8th of 2010: I have closed the comments for this post, since people are posting a lot of advertisement + some people claim that “scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2″ has a virus. I have not written the downgrader, and it worked for me and many other people without any problems, but if you are afraid there is a virus, don’t use it: it is as simple as that.
Lot’s of forum talks, lot’s of articles on Motorola internals, but none seemed to work 100%, and rather worked 97%. There was still this 3% that kept Motorola V3 RAZR owners from unlocking the phone… Here are tested, and proved to complete all 100%, steps that will let you unlock your Moty.
First, let’s get ready. All the tools that you can download below are MS Windows based (if you are using different OS, like Mac or, like me – Ubuntu, you can install MS Windows in a virtual box).
Ok, so assuming you are using MS Windows, these are the tools you will need to use:
- “p2k drivers 2.9” – This is a set of drivers that will enable your PC/Laptop and RAZR V3 to communicate.
- “scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2” – this is the tool written by scotty2 which downgrades your phone’s bootloader from (8.26, 8.23, 7.E0) to 7.D0, which is needed for the next tool to unlock it.
- “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37” – this is an actual “unlocker” tool.
- MiniUSB to USB cable
in order to connect your RAZR V3 to PC/Laptop.
Now the first thing first…
Step 1. Download the tools above, unpack them (unrar, unzip – here is a good tool for that tugzip)
Step 2. Plug in your phone to the computer using (#4) miniUSB to USB cable and install the drivers. Windows will ask you to install the drivers once the phone is plugged in, so just point it to the right directory where you unpacked them
Step 3. Turn off your phone
Step 4. Press and hold two buttons the star (*) and the pound (#) and while holding press the power button – this will bring you to something that Motorola people call “the flash screen”. On the top of the screen you will see something like this:

Transfer ModeStep 5. Now you will need to run a scotty2′s tool to downgrade the Boot Loader (in this case) from 08.26 to 07.D0. For this (unpack the scotty’s zip and) run “downgrader.exe”. Follow the instructions and the output of the program should look similar to:

If you have problems on the step “Waiting for driver to disconnect” (it supposed to auto restart after this step), after the phone turned itself off, just turn it on again as it described in step 3 (Press and hold * and #, then while holding press the power button) At this point you should see that your Boot Loader has changed:

Step 6. Now it is time to run the “p2k_easy_tool_v37″ unlocking tool. Run “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37.exe”,
- 6.1 Go to “Locks” tab
- 6.2 Choose your phone model (V3 RAZR) from the “Phone Model” drop down
- 6.3 Check “Unlock SP”
- 6.4 Click on “Do Selected Jobs” button
And follow the instructions. Here is the snapshot of successful result: 
Step 7. That should complete your journey, and Moty V3 RAZR should be good to go! Now you can take it to the Moon – it’ll work just fine!
Note the last fact is not tested due to the limited knowledge about Moon’s Global System for Mobile communication

I know little about zipping and unpacking etc… I downloaded the stuff unzipped it and plugged in my phone with a usb cord that came with it…. what do I do now nothing came up or started after that?? Do I need to have my SIM in while doing this? This phone was my best friends (an att user) she kept her sim card…. I have a black berry 2 that I hate on tmobile? PLEASE HELP ME thanks
I see 3 drivers under my motorola devices when the phone is turned on normally, but when I boot it in the flash screen it only shows one, and when I try to run the downgrader I get

the program downgrader don’t work on my phone what you say the numbers should be is not the same on my phone my interface #6 bootloader 03.02 SW Version R26111LD_U_96.71.95R. and when I try the downgrader an error comes up on my phone and the whole things stops and the p2k tool when I try to use it I get “can not connect to phone” error. if you want more read outs let me know and I’ll send them to you.

I orignal wanted to run unlock software on the RAZR V3xx my friend gave me but after reading so many issues I decided to call the customer care of the network carrier that have the phone locked (AT&T in this case) and tell them straight that I need the Subsidy Code because I need to travel to Asia and I need the phone unlocked so that I can use a local SIM card. They said no problem and would give me the Subsidy Code after collecting some basic info including the IMEI code of the phone. He would have given me the Subsidy Code over the phone but unfortunately that day the system they use to search the Subsidy Code was down so they said they will set up a case for someone to followup and email me the Subsidy Code. They gave me a case # for me to get call back if I didn’t get the Subsidy Code in 10 days. I got the following email in just 2 days (actual number is removed):

a bit fiddly with the drivers, but it has worked perfectly. You have made my day!
My phone is from AT&T and I feel that its locked. The model is V3xx.
It asked for the subsidy code and now that screen does not come up.
The screen just shows AT&T logo when switched on.
The boot loder version shows 07.00.
When I connect it downgrade the version, it says
GetPhoneStatus – unable to find any valid interfaces.
When I try to unlock it says “it says critical error 1337 510B” and swithes off.
I used both P2K_Easy_Tool_v37 and P2K_Easy_Tool_v39 to unlock it.
Its says Please make TESTPOINT on phone for this model!

This DOES NOT work. I have tried about 8 times now. Phone goes immediately to a blue screen with Motorola’s BOOT screen. Run the loader and all it says is WAITING ON PHONE. NOTHING HAPPENS!!! All of these people are LYING about it working. And if they AREN’T lying about it, you can’t get help here if you have problems anyway.

I spent almost an hour trying to figure out what was wrong.. I had “GetPhoneStatus – unable to find any valid interfaces.” message, and was stuck until I reinstall “Motoral Test Interface”, I think I had to do it twice.. Not sure why. But after that it worked!!! I feel so relieved!

After some searching it appears that this program DOES NOT WORK with windows Vista as there is no support so back to the drawing board for me ?

Im getting stuck after the 4th step. When I push the star and pound key with the power button. The phone lights up for a second and then I don’t get anything on my computer or cell phone scree? When I try to run the scotty program downgrade it just stays on waiting for phone.

My everything went fine accept in last part after powering down in the first step in unlocking I tried several times to connect my phone with pc . it does connect and right away it loose the connection?? I first downgraded from bootloader 08.26 to 07.D0 and opened “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37\”
Follow the steps and everything went fine but when I tried to power on my phone, the keypad lightd up but the screen does not. Please let me know if it can be fixed and what I need to do to fix it.
